I just have to write my bit on this year’s American Idol, DAVID COOK. This guy rocks.

AMERICAN IDOL has always been one of my favorite shows since I first started watching it in season 3. I was rooting for Fantasia, and had goosebumps when she sang I Believe. It started the habit for me, and I’ve watched probably 95% of all episodes from seasons 4 to 7.

Here are my favorite contestants per season. Looking at the list, I guess I’ve been pretty lucky, with a favorite or second favorite of mine winning thrice already:

Season 3 – Fantasia Barrino, who ends nearly all her performances with “yeah yeah yeah.” My favorite performance was of course, Summertime.

Season 4 – Constantine Maroulis, who always gives this sultry look to the camera. My favorite performance was probably Bohemian Rhapsody (although I like Michael John’s Hollywood performance better) and My Funny Valentine.

Season 5 – Taylor Hicks and Chris Daughtry. For Taylor, my favorite performance was You Are So Beautiful although I enjoyed watching him dance to the more upbeat numbers. For Daughtry, it’s Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman. I guess I have to mention though that it’s actually my boyfriend Sidney who liked Daughtry from the start. He just influenced me into rooting for him as well.

Season 6 – Chris Richardson and Blake Lewis. I think Chris’s version of Geek in the Pink was better than Jason Mraz’s (even though I’m a Mraz fan) and his cover of Don’t Speak was out of this world. I also think Blake’s version of You Give Love a Bad Name was also better than the original.

Season 7 – Michael Johns and David Cook. For Michael Johns, it’s his Bohemian Rhapsody performance in Hollywood, and the medley of We Will Rock You and We Are the Champions.

For David Cook, it would have to be Always Be My Baby, because it was so unexpected and so brilliant. Who’d think a sappy love song could sound that good? He actually kind of grew on me. I thought he was really good, but I didn’t pay that much attention until Michael Johns was eliminated. I also loved his version of Billie Jean.
